The 2023 EURODEFENSE International meeting, part of the 2006 Charter who links the associations of the network, was held in London from 12 to 14 November. It was perfectly organised by EuroDéfense – United Kingdom.
The meeting started with a welcoming dinner at the Royal Air Force Club on 12 November, with the traditional British atmosphere and silver, bringing a touch of the Old Empire prestige.
The meeting of the Council of Presidents took place on 13 November in the Library of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), partner of the event with the Center of European Reform. Its agenda included a preparation of the next meetings, the assessment of the activities, which include European Working Groups and observatories, as well as an open debate on the present international situation and future of the Defence of Europe.
Key points are the following.
Eurodéfense Belgium will organise the International meeting in Brussels in May 2024 during the Belgium Presidency of the EU.
Working Group 27 on the Recommendations on EU Defence, has taken a new pathconcentrating on the assessment of the Common Foreign and Defence & Security Policies, their application by Member States, the progress of the Strategic Compass.
The Working group Hybrid Warfare is renamed Unconventional Warfare. Observatory on Cyber is maintained
Observatory on counter-terrorism is renamed “Transnational terrorism”.
New groups (climate, Exports) and observatories (EU Africa), decided the June Council, advance well.
The Council thanks thoroughly the authors of the reports on the Mediterranean Basin, Migrations, Outreach , Commissioning of new equipment, Space, EU-NATO, Russia, Arctic, Cyber.
On the evening, the delegations were received at the French Embassy, where the Ambassador, Madame Hélêne Duchêne, celebrated the 25 th anniversary of the Saint- Malo Agreement and promoted the achievements and the reinforcement of the Defense of Europe.
On 14 November, EURODEFENSE participants attended a public conference, still at the RUSI, on St. Malo: 25 years of European Security and Defence, with brilliant speakers
